"Evaporative Cooler Series"

An evaporative cooler produces effective cooling by combining a natural process (water evaporation), reliable air-moving system (Figure 1).

Fresh and hot outside air is pulled through moist pads where it is cooled by evaporation and circulated through a house or building by a large blower. As this happens, the temperature of the outside air can be decreased 4-15 degrees. Evaporative cooler can work wonderfully well, drawing the desert-like fresh and dry air in. 1/6 electricity consume as air conditioning does. An evaporative cooler costs about half as much as an air conditioner that will cool the same sized area. On the other hand, this product can save us from pollution running without refrigerants damage, a green product it is. Some areas also offer rebates up to $300 to electricity customers who install whole-house evaporative systems.

By heat exchanger theory, evaporative cooler pads are considered constant temperature heat exchangers, whose surface is at the wet-bulb temperature of the air passing through them. How close it gets to that temperature is called the saturation effectiveness of the cooler. A quick check for evaporative cooler performance is to compare the temperature of the water in the cooler sump to that of the air entering and leaving the evaporative cooler.

The equation as below.

Saturation Effectiveness=(Tosa-Tla)/(Tosa-Tsump)*100

where

Tosa:   Temperature of outside air

Tla:      Temperature of air leaving pad

Tsump: Temperature of sump water
